The Work Needs Doing
Alex Hormozi emphasizes the importance of taking action and getting things done. He believes that too many people get stuck in the planning phase and never actually take action, and encourages people to focus on getting the work done, rather than being paralyzed by perfectionism.
To me, this is a perfect paraphrase for how easy it is to wait until the ‘perfect’ moment. Or to continue procrastinating until you ‘feel’ like it. The most successful people in the world keep going no matter how they feel. Oftentimes, the best thing you can do for your future self is keep going. You cannot fail if you do not quit.
Simplify Your Efforts and Focus on The Critical Few
In a world full of distractions and competing priorities, it’s important to simplify our efforts and focus on the most important tasks. Alex Hormozi encourages people to identify the critical few actions that will have the greatest impact and focus on them, rather than trying to do too much at once.
There is immense power in dialing in and focusing on the few tasks that will move the ball forward the most. Thinking about the pareto’s principle, 80% of your results will come from 20% of your effort. So what are the most important tasks you can take on right now?
The Art of Reciprocation
Alex Hormozi believes that reciprocation is a powerful tool for building relationships and creating mutually beneficial partnerships. He encourages people to be proactive in giving value to others, as this will often lead to reciprocal gestures and opportunities.
To be clear, this is not the same as give and expect something back. Purely give without expectation of receiving anything in return. The more you give without expectation of getting something back, the more you will receive naturally. People inherently want to return the favor since you were helpful enough to give them something of VALUE. (which is the key word here)
Frugality is a Superpower
Alex Hormozi encourages people to embrace frugality as a way to save money, reduce stress, and increase financial freedom. He believes that being mindful of our spending and finding ways to live below our means can be a powerful tool for achieving our goals.
People often get this concept mixed up with being cheap. Being frugal doesn’t mean moving a singular lightbulb from room to room to save money on electricity. Being frugal simply means saving money on the biggest expenses you have. (Often housing) I prefer house hacking in order to save over 50% on my mortgage by renting out our basement on Airbnb.
Frugality is simply finding ways to reduce your expenses and then strategically using the additional savings to invest into more productive assets for your future. If finances are the #1 stressor in America, wouldn’t it make sense to prioritize saving as much as you can so if (and when) sh*t hits the fan, you’re not worried about it?
We’re all Going to Die,
Alex Hormozi believes that too many people get caught up in worrying about what others think of them, and encourages people to focus on their own goals and values, rather than seeking the approval of others. He believes that by letting go of this fear, we can live more authentic and fulfilling lives.
If you have listened to Hormozi long enough, these are some of the common themes that you’ll hear from him. Whether you’re interested in building a successful business, improving your relationships, or simply becoming a better person, there’s a lot to be gained from following his advice and insights.
